Astrid A. Dominguez is a dedicated community advocate and the Executive Director of Good Neighbor Settlement House (GNSH) in Brownsville, Texas. A proud Brownsville native and fronteriza, she is a first-generation immigrant who serves her community and champions civil and human rights.
In her role at GNSH, a 71-year-old multi-service nonprofit, Astrid leads efforts to assist vulnerable populations, including unsheltered individuals, low-income families, and newly arriving migrants. Under her guidance, GNSH continues to be a vital resource for those in need, providing crucial support and services to the Brownsville community.
Before joining GNSH, Astrid played a pivotal role as the coordinator of the Rio Grande Valley Welcoming Committee, a coalition dedicated to supporting arriving migrants. In this capacity, she facilitated collaboration among various organizations, ensuring comprehensive aid and resources for migrant families. Astrid’s experience also includes her impactful tenure as Director of the ACLU of Texas Border Rights Center, where she worked on policy advocacy and engaged with key DHS components like CBP to promote meaningful reforms. Her advocacy focused on the protection of the civil and human rights of both border residents and migrants, emphasizing humane and respectful treatment.
Earlier in her career, Astrid contributed her expertise to the Mexican Foreign Ministry, working at the Consulates of Mexico in Brownsville and Phoenix. Her diplomatic experience enhanced her understanding of binational and transborder issues, further fueling her commitment to the border region.
Astrid Dominguez remains a powerful voice for the border community, combining her professional experience with a personal passion for improving the lives of those around her. Her leadership continues to inspire change and elevate the well-being of residents and newcomers alike.
